About us
The laboratory was created as part of the Strategic Project "Research Leadership" of the Priority 2030 program in 2022 on the basis of the Phystech School of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science.
Optimization at MIPT has always been at a high level. Lectures on optimization were given by one of the founders of the Faculty of Management and Applied Mathematics Nikita Nikolaevich Moiseev, the creator of a large scientific school of mathematical modeling in the USSR, to which the head of the laboratory A.V. Gasnikov partly belongs (a student of Academician A.A. Shananin — a student of academician A.A. Petrov — a student of academician N.N. Moiseev).
In 2011, the PreMoLab laboratory was opened at the FUPM (professor V.G. Spokoynii). Laboratory staff — classics of modern optimization B.T. Polyak, Yu.E. Nesterov, A.S. Nemirovsky. From 2011 to 2015, the foundation was laid, on which active activity in the direction of modern numerical optimization methods at the School of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science of MIPT subsequently developed.
Now there are more than 30 people in our team who are professionally engaged in numerical optimization methods and their applications. The activity is based on obtaining new scientific results, writing articles and books, as well as interaction with industrial partners.
Over the past few years, laboratory staff have been awarded Ilya Segalovich Awards, Yahoo Awards, Moscow Government Awards, grants from the President of the Russian Federation, etc.
Laboratory staff participate in various grant programs to support research teams: projects of the Russian Science Foundation, the Ministry of Education, the AI Centers of the ISP RAS and MIPT, etc.
