The head of the MIPT MMO laboratory, Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Alexander Gasnikov, officially became the rector of Innopolis University. The press service of Innopolis also reported this.
“I received an offer to become rector of Innopolis back in July from Alexander Gennadyevich Tormasov, whom I have great respect for. At first it all seemed unreal. The number of obligations that I had in Moscow did not even allow me to think about something like that. On the other hand, I talked with members of the supervisory board; communication with Roman Aleksandrovich Shaikhutdinov was especially important. I understood that there was a unique opportunity to realize my ideas in terms of school and college education, not just on the scale of Innopolis University and Tatarstan, but also on a national scale. Innopolis is a unique project, the example of which can be used to test a lot of things. And transfer successful experience to various regions of the country. Taking into account the fact that in Moscow (at MIPT and other places where I work) there are students who, it seems to me, are quite ready to take over a number of activities,” Alexander Gasnikov said.
He added that the goals for the new post have already been outlined. Among them is to make the scientific track at the institute and the republic stronger. It is also important to create many new points of growth both at the university itself and in the republic as a whole, in the country.
“By growth points I mean new laboratories and courses, scientific schools, bachelor’s programs, school clubs. “We will also bring to Innopolis various events for schoolchildren and students that were previously held in other places,” the scientist added.
On the day of his appointment as rector, Alexander Gasnikov discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin the development and application of AI at the international conference AI Journey 2023.
Alexander Gasnikov graduated from the Department of Control and Applied Mathematics of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 2006, and ten years later he became a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. Since 2023, he has been the chief researcher at Skoltech, and in the same year he took up the post of head of the Laboratory “Multiscale Neurodynamics for Intelligent Systems” Center for Artificial Intelligence Technology. At the same time, he is the head of Laboratory No. 10 of the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Mathematical Foundations of Machine Learning. He is on the editorial board of many authoritative journals: Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications — Q1 (one of the world's leading journals on numerical optimization methods), Journal of Computational Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, Siberian Journal of Industrial Mathematics.
The new rector of Innopolis is the author of over 200 articles published in journals and collections of level A international conferences. He has 7 books, including the main Russian monograph on mathematical modeling of traffic flows. Every year the professor publishes over 30 scientific articles.
